Company Analysis

Florida State College at Jacksonville is a state college in Jacksonville, Florida and part of the Florida College System. The institution is one of several colleges in the Florida College System that is recognized as a “state college,” which offers a greater number of four-year bachelor’s degrees than traditional two-year community colleges. FSCJ offers more than 150 programs and certificates housed by 5 campuses serving more than 57,000 students worldwide.

FSCJ refers to its institution as the “communities’ college”, with a mission to provide high-value education that enhances the intellectual, social, cultural and economic development of Jacksonville’s diverse community. The community mirrors the colleges target market having students from more than 120 countries and ranging in age from 15 to 77 years old. The average age of an FSCJ student is 27 years old and these individuals usually are the ones who are coming back to school, more focused and ready to get a degree to start working. The real target is reaching the traditional college student who are around the ages of 17 or 18. Especially young men who are minorities.

Strengths

The college holds many strengths such as being the leading institution in Northeast Florida that provides opportunities for many people from all walks of life to receive an education. For instance, the colleges minimum required GPA to enroll is a 2.0 which aligns with the mission to enhance the community from all diverse backgrounds. FSCJ is also ranked high on most affordable in institutional cost having rates as low as one-hundred and five dollars per credit hour.  This rate is a necessary level to reach the community demographic the college markets for. Also, the college offers degrees including Bachelor degrees that are directly in need of the community. So the colleges degrees in the medical field, business, communications etc. are areas of study in which the community needs in terms of grow or hires. The ESOL program at FSCJ is one of many partnerships which help to enhance the community of Jacksonville, Florida.

Opportunities

There are many opportunities FSCJ can take advantages of one are the trends to really connect with there audience and generate more engagement. Some ideas which come to mind are social media campaigns focused on driving a twenty percent increase in user-generated content as well as serving to impact the mission to drive enrollment. An example of a platform the college could make good use of and would be an effective tool is Snapchat. Many “traditional college students” and twenty-seven year olds use the platform. Among this there are many opportunities that can be utilized.

Conclusion

Suggestions of analytics and planning tools include surveys/focus groups to ask students about activities they would like to see on campus. Also research is huge, I suggest the college research successful college activities or social techniques to see it could be implemented at their institution. Some analytical tools would be sprout social, sense the company really digs deep to help the company understand the weakness and strengths of  their campaigns. This would help the campaign avoid mishaps or unsuccessful techniques. In all, I believe FSCJ has an enormous amount of potential for growth and creating and implementing this campaign will help generate awareness increase applications as well as enrollment for the college as a whole.

Synopsis:

This business has an extremely large reach in terms of the audience but little engagement  to balance the amount of views. The type of views that were generated were mostly paid and natural organic audiences were slim to none. The data alluded to the needed engagement tactics which the company needed to start to drive more real traffic from their marketing efforts. But, given that the company is a mom&pop store, the level of success it still impressive. Screen Shot 2016-03-29 at 10.37.11 PM.png

On March 31st the company posted on March mini spilt madness and reached 12.5k people but what is most impressive about that number are the amount of people who clicked on the post, which turned out to be 2k. Screen Shot 2016-03-29 at 10.38.51 PM

Key findings

Two major key findings were the time of day and popular days in which the company noticed more engagement. These peak hours are essential to the company growth and important to know when creating a marketing plan. This data give the company more information about their audience as well for instance, if most individuals are at work for the typically Monday-friday 9-5 job, then that means they’re also on social media on break or in between breaks, hence this is the companies chance. Now that the company has this information they can use it to tailor there advantage and post to target a certain group at a certain time.

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 9.50.58 AM

Another key finding  was the type of post conducted by the brand. Again this data needs to be analyzed effectively to enhance marketing tactics which would assist them greatly. Attaching a photo with their post generates them more reach and potential engagement  from that initial post. So moving forward the company should incorporate shots, videos, memes or more aside from content to boost views and ultimately engagement.

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 9.51.12 AM.png

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 10.17.53 AM

The data which reflected the majority of views visiting the companies Facebook page from their mobile devices was a key finding which I believe speaks volumes. The company should take this as a heads up to boost engagement  in more mobilized way like creating an app or becoming more mobile friendly by adding popular apps such as snapchat to connect with their audience. Understanding your audience is key to good conversation and social growth.

Screen Shot 2016-04-02 at 10.18.31 AM

The last key finding I think was worth mentioning was the gender in which views the most of the companies post,it was female. This information is also good to know to help the company grow, post catering more to the female gender would be wise to try from time to time to see the end-result. A great example would be the owners sharing some personal information with their audience such as “its my wife’s birthday today, and I want the world to know. ” This would generate an awwwww in the audience which can lead to a  like, comment or share action.

Improvements

Post improvement definitely need to be made base on the data, and implementing more photos, Gifs, memes or videos will do the trick. To set an example the post on March 31st modeled the way the rest of their post should be crafted as the result was views in the thousands. Also the brands conversation needs to be a bit more interested, this can happen by keeping up with the latest trends and actually interacting with the consumers great ways start with commenting, liking and sharing their stuff so they can return the favor. Essentially, sharing there similar company post and engaging with others might help increase visibility.

How could other channels play a part in boosting results?

Including channels like Snapchat, twitter, the companies website or would increase visibility, expand the audience across channels and allow other techniques to come in to play. As the postings expands so does the idea, what one consumer gets from Facebook may not be what another receives from Instagram, so the reach could go both ways, audience members could come tot he companies Facebook page because it was listed on their website or a different channel.

What are some future campaigns or posts that could be effective?

Some neat campaigns which come to mind are #wecanfixthat or #allsummer16. Both hashtags are from familiar media references the audience would understand.”we can fix that” is catchy and originates from the quote, “I can fix that.” From a character in the movie Holes. Allsummer16 is a quote made by a popular rapper name track and the heating and cooling company can use that phrase to their advantage to convey through the summer they will be fixing all cooling units for anyone in need. This could also be associated with a funny meme to draw more attention. The company can also create Youtube videos and make how to videos to help people learn how to fix easy things that will not run the company out of business.

How can they integrate in their other available offline and online channels?

Offline channels such as commercials, flyers, possible radio or newspaper, can be distributed in many numerous ways. Flyers can be posted on Facebook, Twitter and their website. Radio and commercial recordings can be uploaded to YouTube and posted on Facebook and Twitter for others to watch.  Another way is to use channels like Snapchat to record in real time offline events, flyers, commercials or even recordings.

The social genius of WPPI

This is for graduate purposes only

WPPi stands for the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International and was founded in 1978 to serve the needs of wedding photographers. As part of my assignment my instructor asked for an overall summary surrounding the annual WPPi conference, March 7th-9th.  Below are questions regarding before and after the event.

Social media prior to the show, during, and after?

Prior to the show #WPPI event the brand primarily used Facebook and Twitter but, utilized Snapchat, there personal app, and Instagram. I enjoyed the Snapchat idea, connecting with the audience a couple days before the event to unlock excited and show perpetration transports value to the event. Snap chat is a great platform before the event to generate buzz, during the event to illustrate personal behind the scene activities and finally after to give the audience a sneak peak of the “aftermath/ party.

for my assignment

Creating an app for this event was also genius because this prepared the audience on what to expect and communicated information effectively so everyone could stay on the same page. A slick post was made on Facebook to highlights importance.

post

On Facebook, many post were crafted to round up guest and attendees in unique ways. One way which caught my eye was a promotion within a promotion. The post spoke on brand strategies and Jaleel King Photography a Guru on the topic but, underlined the event as well. User engagement was even driven from thee post since it targeted the interest of the audience.

wppi assignmenttrack class

During the event the brand posted the winners and notable occurrences. This is an awesome way to get people to tune into the event or get them “talking via social media about the event/brand.

winners

What type of content are they posting?

The content is very deliberate, they’re posting reminders for the event as well as tips on travel and registration. This kinda of content pushes urgency and allows the audience to mentally get ready for whats coming up and for those who are attending its all about getting them ready for the experience.

show.GIF

Are they using hashtags, retweeting, highlighting certain booths, events?

I noticed the hashtag, #wppi2016 as well as plenty of retweets and booth highlights. The booth  highlights before and during the event really drew more attention to each artist that was represented. And the hashtag remained consistent giving social a chance to follow each post and story.

photographer.GIF

Sponsors/vendors were being promoted via Twitter and Facebook post. Each sponsor was given a spotlight on there product or service mainly as a thank you for providing funding or booths for the event. Below is an example of how Sigma Photo had the opportunity to showcase their new lens.

cannon vedor.GIF

 IMC examples?

imc for wppi

Some integrated marketing examples included the website driving traffic from social media and registration to promote informative emails on the event. Aside from that I noticed the same post from Facebook on Twitter which helped create transparency and equal exposure.

Some fan blogs were created by photographer lovers who single-highhandedly self-promoted the event with their advocacy.  I think this was neat to see and read about from an attendees perspective. blogs for vageas

What I feel was missing in the campaign was the brands point of view and human-connection with the event. For instance i think it would’ve been nice to see post expressing the goal of the event from the brands perspective as well as  the final thoughts of the event. This would’ve been a nice additional to the event highlights and sponsor promotions.

Overall what stood out to me was the turnout compared to the amount of engagement. WPPI holds about thirty thousand followers on twitter but didn’t reeve much feedback in terms of shares, user generated content, retweets, likes or favorites throughout the campaign for the event. Although the event was a great turn out i believe the engagement could have been much higher in numbers.

Social Professional Networks: #SERMO

Medical Industry

This platform is called Sermo focused on the medical industry designed to talk about real-world medicine. It’s exclusively for doctors to share and communicate across the globe effectively.  Sermo vital as this way of sharing information  among physicians has not been shared before. The site is recognize as the number one social network for physicians to provide trusted Med-page today content.

Sermo is a place where physicians can network on everything from patient care to practice management.  The site advertises itself as the largest online physician community in the US, and it spans 68 specialties and all 50 states. Practicing US physicians can collaborate on difficult cases and exchange observations about drugs, devices and clinical issues, and find potentially life-saving insights that have yet to be announced by outside media sources.

What are your overall thoughts ? Can it stand out?

This kind of platform is important to overall improve how patients are taken care of through medicine. Doctors get a chance to connect and speak “physician” and share idea and concerns via social, without this tool many breakthroughs  and or discovers would not benefit anyone else.

Thoughts on this platform?

This platform definitely stands out, it is impressive and extremely useful. To many times doctors discover better ways of handling treatment for it to go unknown or be of benefit to a colleague. Sermo has set the stage for all physicians all over the world to connect personally I think is necessary for doctors to share information and new findings to help better the industry. Unlike other popular platforms, Sermo is exclusively for physicians.  This industry is about sharing news within the medicine and healthcare realm only seeking to better the industry as well as the communication there of.

Proximity Marketing incorporation

To recap, proximity marketing is a located-based marketing strategy, where consumers are given an alert, in the form of a coupon or sale to driven the consumer to a certain company or business. With Sermo, a great way proximity marketing could be of use may consist of alerts regarding healthy products, medicine discounts, fitness  apparel, exercises  or equipment.  Assuming that doctors live healthy life styles this would be great for healthy food companies to take advantage of the healthcare lifestyle.

IMC: Social Content Communities

Alongside Sermo, Instagram,Twitter, Pintrest, would be a great place to connect with health communities to share what physicians are doing. Facebook what be a great place to share the diversity among physicians by using the check-in tool. So on a good day working with the IMC plan, sermo would be a platform only for practicing physicians and success stories or findings would most likely spill into other social platforms for others to see. Daily healthy tips would be a great content piece to include on all platforms, which will encourage non physicians to take good care of their bodies. Social content communities would be a great place for the average person to share ideas with doctors. On platforms like linked in, physicians can advertise the social channel Sermo to other doctors and share stories on their as well.

#Peachy Keen

Introducing Peach

peach

Type of channel?

Peach is a mobile application-based social network and created by  Dom Hofman, the co-founder of the video-based social network called Vine. The app is usually described as a hybrid of Twitter and the fairly new social network Slack.

What does it do /How does it work?

Peach supports the cool sharing of video, images, gifs as well as user-created drawings. Interestingly enough, Peach avoids the traditional hash tagging, and tagging similarities used by other social networks. The difference in in the app is the “magic words” feature, which allows the user to access popular functions such as the letter “m” for meme or “g” for GIF, which is said to be similar to the common line interface in the social network Slack.Peach also doesn’t have a  character limit.

The magic words can also trigger songs the user is currently listing to as but using “song” also the magi word move will share your fitness tracker, like miles run or steps taken. Also words like ratings lets you rate any random thing you want like dinner: 2 stars. Typically, individual streams end up resembling Tumblr pages, with endless scrolls and amalgamations of GIFs, text, quotes and images. Also, there’s a cool camera feature. It does supplement task letting you create photos, videos, GIFs and collages.

Check them out below:

Peach is now available on both IOS and Android. Aside from the “magic word” concept, on peach you have to be friends with someone to like or comment on their post. Each user has their own feed, where they can put pretty much whatever they want. But in order to put content other than basic text and emojis, the user has to say a “magic word.”

“Peachers” can also interact with each other via a multi-faceted interaction menu, similar to Facebook’s old Poke feature, friends can wave, boop and send cake to each other. Another important  detail about peach is that there is no web app but 100% application,or anyway to view post publicly . The only (approved) way to share anything outside the app itself is by sending a text message with the contents of it pasted in, and a link to the app’s website. Which is the reason Peach can be referred to as term propriety app.

peach

History?

Unlike Facebook,Twitter, Instagram or Pintrest, Peach is purposely different and often mentioned as the proprietary  social network. Since the app was launched recently on January 7, 2016, the data and is from slim to none. However, Dom Hoffman co-founder of Vine presented the idea during a  computer science festival and intentionally added features that would separate it self from current  popular social sites.

Target audience?

Peaches tagline states, “Peach is a fun, simple way to keep up with friends and be yourself.” The  target market is anyone who currently spends their time on popular social sites like Facebook,Twitter, Instagram and Snap chat. Time and data will be the two key indicators of Hoffman’s official target market. But as a new platform growth is the only concern.
features

User numbers/Growth?

Its hard to distinguish the amount of growth Peach has had accomplished in a month and the numbers have not been posted anywhere for reference. Although I figured Peaches  growth on neighboring social media sites would be a great way to see  awareness and measure growth within a short time. Surprisingly enough I noticed peach was only on Twitter.

peach growth on twitter

Integration with other social channels/Mobile friendly?

Again the Peach application does not launch publicly and cannot be found on the web so the only integration  is on Twitter and cannot be found on other popular social  sites like Facebook or Instagram. Which makes this application extremely mobile friendly, keeping user engagement limited to the app alone. Sarah Mitroff of the article, created a list of features she wished Peach offered.

  • Connect Peach with Facebook or Twitter so you can find friends more easily.
  • Use privacy controls to hide posts from particular people.
  • Edit posts after the fact.
  • Follow people without letting them see what you post.
  • Rearrange your friends list so your favorite people appear at the top.

Mitroff also alluded to Peach as intentionally different and its purposeful challenge on how we connect with friends. With popular sites like Twitter or Facebook, new social platforms may find the preconditioning of techniques may be hard to break away from  as well as  limited in creativity. Which is why I believe Peach was designed the way it was.

What major brands/companies/celebrities/people are using this channel effectively?

Unfortunately, Peach has not acquired any big names yet but, it has had a couple of celebrity fake accounts.

Check out my thoughtful Prezi  about Peach!copk
